Past Presidents’ Committee

The Past Presidents’ Committee shall be chaired by the Immediate Past President and the Committee and the Committee shall be comprised of past presidents of ICASE.  The Committee shall be responsible for:

(a) assisting the President and Executive Committee in an advisory capacity;
(b) conducting membership recruitment activities;
(c) maintaining membership records; and
(d) recommending awards and recognition to be presented at the Annual Meeting....

Recognition and Awards

The Past Presidents’ Committee shall accept names from the membership for the following annual awards:

1. Distinguished Service - is not defined in the current constitution and by past practice a plaque has been presented to members or non-members for exemplary efforts in the field of special education.

2. Meritorious Service - is not defined in the current constitution and by past practice a plaque has been presented to members or non-members in recognition of outstanding service.

3. Honorary Membership - may be awarded to any active member who has retired or has otherwise changed positions after five years of continuous active membership in this organization.  Upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee honorary membership may also be granted to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the field of special education (Section 3).  By past practice a plaque has been presented to the individual(s).

An honorary member is granted the same privileges as an Associate member (all privileges of active membership except holding office, voting, or serving as a Roundtable Representative).   

4. Retirement - is not defined in the current constitution and by past practice a certificate has been presented to a retiring member of ICASE who does not meet the years of membership for an honorary award.

 The Past Presidents’ Committee is responsible for: (a) determining recommendations for recipients using established criteria; (b) forwarding committee recommendations to the Executive Committee no later than its December meeting; and (c) recommending special recognition for illness, injury or death, etc. which may be given at the discretion of the Executive Committee at any time.

 Executive Committee

Besides the Scholarship award no other recognition or awards are delineated in the current constitution.  By past practice the following recognition has been granted through the executive committee:

1. President’s Award - has been a plaque presented to an individual(s) at the discretion of the current president.

2. Officer’s Award - has been a plaque presented to either the secretary or treasurer upon completion of their respective terms.

3. Special Recognition - has been an award presented in recognition of contributions to the field.

ICASE is proud to award scholarships to students seeking a degree in educational fields that serve students with special needs. Established in 1993 in honor of Rutherford B. Porter, the award is available to both undergraduate and graduate students.
